Fall / winter 2020/2021 is all about exceptional fabrics
They’re here! The new fall models are now available to view instore – at least for those still able to visit in person. The public health situation and the lockdowns imposed in certain cities such as Toulouse or Geneva do not discourage us, and we look forward to showing them to you.
This season is all about exceptional fabrics. Fabrics 100% Made in Italy, woven in the very heart of Piedmont, in the wool capital: Biella. Stemming from a first cooperation with Tallia di Delfino – a century-old mill based in Strona, a few kilometers from Biella – these fabrics have been crafted by our faithful artisans to offer you an exclusive selection of new jackets and trousers with an extraordinary feel to them.
The Italian textile industry, a wellspring of great manufacturing traditions, is divided into (micro-) specialized regions, and it is quite naturally to Biella that we will turn in this newsletter. Biella, where the first traces of spinning mills date back to the 13th century, and which has fought over the centuries to preserve a unique know-how, often copied yet never equaled. Family firms both large and small have obstinately continued to improve the quality of their production, technical innovation, and to promote the kind of secrets so hard to imitate and that can only be acquired through long practice.
Unique expertise combined with the dexterity of our artisans, results in a collection of pieces that only a visit to the shop can explain. We look forward to meeting you there.
L'automne / hiver 2020/2021 sous le signe de tissus d'exception
Ca y est. Les nouveautés automnales sont arrivées en boutique, du moins pour ceux qui peuvent encore s'y rendre. La situation sanitaire et les fermetures imposées dans certaines villes comme Toulouse ou Genève ne nous découragent pas, et nous nous réjouissons de vous les faire découvrir.
Cette saison se place sous le signe de tissus d'exception. Des tissus 100% Made in Italy, tissés au coeur même du Piémont, dans la capitale de la laine: Biella. Fruits d'une première coopération avec Tallia di Delfino, filature centenaire basée à Strona, à quelques kilomètres de Biella, ces tissus ont été travaillés par nos fidèles artisans pour vous offrir une sélection exclusive de nouvelles vestes et pantalons au toucher extraordinaire.
L'industrie textile italienne, réservoir de grandes traditions manufacturières, est découpée en (micro-) régions spécialisées, et c'est tout naturellement vers Biella que nous allons nous tourner dans cette newsletter. Biella, où les premières traces de filatures remontent au XIIIeme siècle, et qui s'est battue au fil des siècles pour préserver un savoir-faire unique, souvent copié mais jamais égalé. Avec obstination, les sociétés familiales, petites ou grandes, ont continué à renforcer la qualité de leur production, l’innovation technique, et à faire valoir ces secrets si difficiles à copier que l’on ne peut acquérir qu’au prix d’une très longue pratique.

Fratelli Tallia di Delfino, Italian excellence for over a century.
Founded in 1903 by Delfino Tallia, this wool mill located in Strona, on the riverside a few kilometers from Biella, has seen three generations succeed one another, guiding it to its current position as a benchmark in the field of Italian luxury. A true ambassador of "Made in Italy", it is a world-renowned label that perpetuates a proud tradition beyond national borders, reaching areas such as Switzerland where these fabrics now enrich the KA/NOA collection.
Fratelli Tallia di Delfino, l'excellence italienne depuis plus d'un siècle.
Fondée en 1903 par Delfino Tallia, cette fabrique de tissus située à Strona, en bordure de rivière à quelques kilomètres de Biella, a vu trois generations se succéder à sa tête, pour en faire aujourd'hui une des références du luxe italien. Veritable ambassadeur du "Made in Italy", c'est un label mondialement reconnu qui perpétue la tradition au-delà des frontières, et jusqu'en Suisse où il vient enrichir la collection KA/NOA.
Wool weaving is the oldest fabric-producing method and traces of weaving have been found dating back to 5,000 years BCE. This technique consists of interlacing vertical (warp threads) and horizontal (weft threads) threads on a loom. The way in which these threads are woven together influences the characteristics of the fabric, as well as their number and density (the finer the threads, the more complex the weaving will be). It is also at this point that threads of different kinds (cashmere, wool etc.) and colors can be introduced to form a pattern on the fabric.
Le tissage de la laine est la plus vieille méthode textile, on retrouvait déjà des traces de tissage 5000 ans avant notre ère. Elle consiste à entrecroiser des fils verticaux (fils de chaine) et horizontaux (fils de trame) sur un métier. La manière par laquelle ces fils sont tissés ensemble influe sur les caractéristiques du tissus, ainsi que leur nombre et leur densité (plus les fils seront fins, pour le tissage sera complexe). C'est à ce moment-là également qu'on peut introduire des fils de nature différente (cachemire, laine etc) et des couleurs, pour dessiner un motif sur le tissu.

Italian, English and French drapers, leaders in the manufacture of exceptional fabrics in Europe, have vied with each other in pursuing technological innovations aimed at weaving increasingly fine yarns, notably in order to stand out from their Chinese competitors. This fineness is categorized by the term Super followed by a number (Super 100s, Super 120s, etc.) which indicate the fineness of the wool. Yet the fineness of the wool is only one of the many quality criteria. The quality of the fiber is also important, as there is a long path from fiber to fabric. The fiber is washed, carded, combed, defelted, dyed, spun and finally woven. The quality of these steps, as well as the quality of any fibers with which they will be mixed (such as cashmere), is also very important. While it is undeniably true that the finer the wool, the softer it is, that also implies it will prove delicate and require special care. There are therefore many criteria for choosing a jacket or pants according to the use you wish to make of them, and we will be happy to provide you with the best possible advice.
Les drapiers italiens, anglais ou français, leaders dans la fabrication de tissus d'exception en Europe, ont redoublé d'innovations technologiques pour tisser des fils de plus en plus fins, pour se démarquer de leurs concurrents chinois en particulier. Cette finesse est catégorisée par les dénomination Super (Super 100's, Super 120', etc) qui indiquent la finesse de la laine. Mais la finesse de la laine n'est qu'un des multiples critères de qualité. Viennent s'y ajouter la qualité des fibres, car longue est la route entre la fibre et le tissus... La fibre sera lavée, cardée, peignée, défeutrée, teinte, puis filée, et enfin tissée. La qualité de ces étapes, ainsi que la qualité des éventuelles fibres avec lesquelles elles seront mélangées (comme le cachemire) est également très importante. Par contre, on peut affirmer que plus la laine sera fine, plus elle sera douce, mais elle sera aussi plus délicate et demandera un soin particulier. Il existe donc de nombreux critères pour choisir une veste ou un pantalon selon l'usage qu'on souhaite en faire, et nous serons heureux de vous conseiller au mieux.

True to our philosophy of not rushing the seasons, we have started to put the winter collection in place in our stores over the last few weeks. For those of you who haven't yet had the chance to visit us in our boutiques, here are some glimpses our new products, in the hope that they will make you want to come and discover them for real.

Fidèles à notre philosophie de ne pas brusquer les saisons, nous commençons depuis quelques semaines à mettre la collection d'hiver en place dans nos boutiques. Pour ceux qui n'ont pas eu la chance de pouvoir passer nous voir en boutique, voici quelques insights de nos nouveautés, en espérant vous donner envie de venir les découvrir en vrai.

Our facemasks are now available in 4 colors and 3 sizes. Knitted with anti-viral, anti-bacterial and biodegradable treated yarns, they are super-comfortable and breathable, as our customers can testify.
Nos masques sont maintenant disponibles en 4 couleurs, et 3 tailles. Tricotés avec des fils traités antiviraux, anti-bactériens et biodégradables, ils sont hyper confortables et respirants. Nos clients peuvent en témoigner :).
On November 19, 2020, a twinkling starry sky will stretch over Bahnhofstrasse and Rennweg. In the course of the afternoon the "Lucy" Christmas lights will be switched on, bathing the city center in a soft light. "Lucy" has been lighting up Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse at Christmas time since 2010. It is over a kilometer long and, with its almost 12,000 crystals and twice as many lights, conjures up a romantic roof over the shopping street.
This will be a perfect opportunity to discover our new boutique at N°24 Rennweg, as we will be serving some "glühwein" and our delicious raclette from our cow "KANOA"! An evening out, as boutiques will remain open until 10pm.
Le 19 novembre 2020, un ciel étoilé s'illuminera au-dessus de la Bahnhofstrasse et de Rennweg: Dans l'après-midi, la ville allumera ses fameuses lumières de Noël, et "Lucy" réchauffera le centre ville de ses mille feux. "Lucy" scintille à travers Zurich chaque Noël depuis 2010, alignant plus de 12'000 cristaux et 20'000 lumières sur plus d'un kilomètre.
A cette occasion, notre boutique de Rennweg sera ouverte jusqu'à 22h, et nous serions ravis de vous accueillir pour un verre de Glühwein et une raclette de notre vache KANOA!
BIELLA, The power of hidden and unknown beauty
If you decide to plan a weekend to visit Tallia di Delfino in Strona, be sure to stop off in Biella. This town with its 45,000-strong population is famous for its textile manufacturers and their ancestral know-how. A jewel nestling in the hollow of the surrounding mountains, yet well worth a visit. A city that in 2019 won the title of "Creative City" awarded by UNESCO. Lose yourself in the narrow streets of the upper area (Piazzo) and the lower area (Piano), guided by the scents of hops, cheese and cold meats! Si vous décidez de planifier un week-end pour visiter Tallia di Delfino à Strona, faites en sorte de vous arrêter à Biella. Cette ville de 45'000 habitants, célèbre pour ses fabricants de textiles et leur savoir-faire ancestral, est un bijou caché au creux des montagnes qui l'entourent, mais qui vaut le détour. Une ville qui a remporté en 2019 le titre de "Creative City" de l'UNESCO. Perdez-vous au fil des ruelles de la partie haute (Piazzo) et la partie basse (Piano), guidés par les parfums de houblon, de fromage et de charcuterie! Crossing the local market every Tuesday and Friday on Piazza I° Maggio, you will reach Caffé Ferrua. A local institution since 1842, this café will pull at your heartstrings. With its traditional interior designs featuring wood and mirrors, this place has remained untouched and tells the stories of the artists who thronged here during the roaring Twenties and Thirties. Don't miss the famous Canestrelli Biellese, two extremely thin and crunchy waffle layers filled with dark chocolate!

A food hall to get lost in: more than 400 square meters dedicated to meat and handmade "salumeria". Established for more than 100 years at the same address, it has been home to five generations of butchers! Be sure to taste the "paletta", a pork shoulder ham marinated for hours, cooked and sliced. Yummy!

Piazzo, the medieval center of Biella, is worth the hike up: home to many palazzi that deserve a visit. The Avvelanata wine bar is a perfect place for an aperitive serving wine by the glass accompanied by local cheeses!

Osteria Due Cuori
Time for dinner: you find yourself sitting at a table in the wonderful setting of one of the town's main squares. Osteria Due Cuori is a special, small restaurant that has decided to only work with local and regional products of the area and local producers. Try the vitello tonnato and the homemade tagliatelle with ragù made from fassone meat from the area. One particular wine that is well worth a try: Funsu Nebbiolo.

On the way to your visit to Fratelli Tallia di Deflino, be sure you stop at Valfré Ristorante to try the best Polenta Concha! This Piedmont culinary specialty is a really tasty treat that you'll probably want to walk off after lunch :). A must try.
